Water Safety & Swimming Pool Management
We don't have our own pool, but we can help to make your pool safer.  Around 400 children and adults drown in the UK every year, swimming pools account for a very small percentage of these and are by far the safest place to swim.  The safety of pool users rests with the Pool Operator and whilst there is no law that says you must have lifeguards, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, requires that a comprehensive risk assessment is carried out and suitable training be provided.

Pool Safety Operating Procedures

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations requires work places to have conducted Risk Assessments and have a written Health and Safety Policy.  The Management of Health and Safety in Swimming Pools (HSG 179) recommends swimming pools have a set of written Pool Safety Operating Procedures.

We can bring you pool up to date and help you become fully compliant.
Examples of our services include:-
Risk Assessments
Writing of PSOP
PSOP Reviews
Testing your Emergency Action Plans

Lifeguard Training

Regulation 13 of the Management of Health and Safety Regulations requires employers to provide "Suitable and sufficient Ongoing Training to their staff.  The industry standard is accepted as 2 hours per month.  Regular competency assessments are recommended and in particular when staff are returning to work after an absence or are new starters.

If your organisation isn't large enough to employ your own trainer, we can fill that gap and provide you with regualr ongoing Lifeguard Training and provide you with the evidence that your legal obligations are being fulfilled.

Training and Supporting your Lifeguard Trainer

We can help you develop an individual within your team to become the Trainer.  This could be a place on a Trainer Assessor Course,  Mentoring them, Providing the necessary Internal Quality Assurance for you to become an Approved Training Centre in your own right.

We deliver update sessions, recently these have been Pool Extraction Board practical workshops and AED Trainer courses.  as well as the more generic Award in Education and Training.
Godstowe School
At Godstowe School we provided consultation serivces as their new pool was being built.  Conducted the Risk Assessments and wrote the initial PSOP.  We also worked with their new Manager to write Work Instructions, ran an initial National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches course.

We wrote the Risk Assessments for Swanbourne House School's Swimming Pool. We manage and deliver training to their Swimming Teachers and Lifeguards, to ensure their pool is safely supervised.

We worked alongside the management team at University of Birmingham Sport for 10 years.  When we started their lifeguard training was at best erratic, some lifeguards hadn't trained for 6 months and they had a variety of qualifications, some out of date.

We started by updating and cross training all lifeguards to the RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications, set up and delivered monthly ongoing training and managed the renewal of qualifications.

We supported the University has they had a new 50m pool built and trained their increasing team as they moved into the new centre.

Now they have their own Trainer and have become self sufficient.  We wish everyone at USB Sport all the best for the future.  Job done!
